Q&A:  Guardianships
I.  GUARDIANSHIPS OF ADULTS

A. Guardianships over the person - These guardianships are established
to ensure the Wards personal needs are met.

B.  Guardianships over the property - These guardianships are
established so a person can manage the Wards financial affairs.

C.  Guardianships over the person and property - Guardianships can be
established whereby the guardian has responsibility over the Wards
person and financial affairs.

D.  Limited guardianship - A guardianship established for a certain
purpose like obtaining dental care.  

E.  Guardianships are proper when a person is no longer capable of
taking care of his or her personal needs or financial matters.

F.  A person subject to a legal guardianship is called a "Ward".


II.  GUARDIANSHIPS OF MINOR CHILDREN

A.  Limited guardianship -  A guardianship established for a certain
purpose like obtaining medical care.  

B.  A guardianship is proper when the minor child will be irreparably
harmed unless a guardian is appointed over the minor child or when
the natural parent(s) consent to the guardianship.   

C.  Just like in adult guardianships there are guardianships for the person
of the minor child, the property of the minor child, or both.

D.  Co-Guardians  - More than one person can be appointed as a
guardian, but the act of one guardian is sufficient to bind both.
